A comment by the author is developed. The central theme is Hipólito Unanue and Arequipa. And, after all, Peru in the making. The author takes to recognize the figure of Unanue committed to his country. Initially within the realistic fidelismo and later like supporter of the separatist cause. The work is aimed at encouraging the understanding of the hero's behavior: his commitment, his loyalty to the country, first shown in his activity as Procurator of the province of Arequipa during the viceregal administration.
"The incessant desire to update the figures that were linked to the formation of our nationality shows us the conjuncture of taking the facts of the past to meditate on them and on their occasion. The documents that we publish, to explain the vicissitudes of the separatist war, constitute a contribution, to interpret the meaning of events and the behavior of men ".
