About This Book
Since the 1950s, the number and nature of organometallic compounds that are known has increased at a bewildering pace. Organoiron compounds have played a central role in the development of the subject. Iron forms stable complexes with a wide range of ligands, making this perhaps the most versatile metal in the Periodic Table.
Despite this, the use of organoiron complexes in organic synthesis has been somewhat restricted compared with, for example, palladium, rhodium and other metals that are mainly used in catalytic processes.
The aim of this book is to provide coverage of the applications of organoiron complexes in organic synthesis, in a form that can be easily understood by the practising organic chemist. The vast majority of complexes discussed in this book are easy to prepare, and the book will enable organic chemists to develop an understanding of how to design syntheses based on the known chemistry of the complexes described.
