"With the objective of providing compelling explanations, the authors determined, with accurate field measurements, the orientations of nearly 300 buildings in 87 archaeological sites in the Maya lowlands. To analyze the data, they conclude, these alignments refer mostly to the sunrises and sunsets on certain dates, meaning that can be understood in terms of its relationship with the agricultural cycle and their formal calendar system, but also identifies various orientations towards the extremes of Venus and the Moon."
