Binta, la petite vendeuse

Seven-year-old Binta has never been to school; she lives with her parents and two sisters in a village. One day a rich aunt comes to the village and asks for one of the girls to come back to the city with her. Binta is chosen. Her father asks that she be treated like one of the aunt's own children. But instead Binta spends her days selling chilled candy and ginger-water in the marketplace, and is abused by her aunt. She becomes sick and is finally returned to the care of her family.
