About This Book

John Robert Baylor (1822-1894) moved from Kentucky to Ohio, before settling in Texas. He held various political offices in Texas and was called to serve as the Confederate governor of Arizona between 1861 and 1865. He also served in the Confederate Army between 1862 and 1865. Most of his activities relating to the Confederate Territory of Arizona (which included the southern portions of New Mexico and Arizona) were directed against the Comanche Indians and the Union Army.
