Accompanied, as befits a Fellow of the Linnean Society, by abundant scholarly footnotes on the flora and fauna and appropriate quotations from such author's as Moody, Hardy's 'Sporting Adventures', Gosse' s 'Canadian Naturalist', etc. About two-thirds of the book is devoted to Canada, principally the Thousand Islands region. Dedicated to Walter Shanley [sic], the tempestuous civil engineer and politician. Bulger began his military career in the Roy al Canadian Rifle Regiment in 1847 and later transferred to the 10th North Lincolnshire Regiment.
