Tokyo [1963], Toto. Blue cloth, dj., 104p., with one actual color woodblock print by Azechi tipped in, also 12 color, 41 b.w. plates, 118 figures & 5 Washi hand-made paper samples tipped in. Includes a section on Japanese handmade papers, with tipped in samples. Azechi was a member of the "Yoyogi Group" under Hiratsuka Unichi, a pioneer of the "creative print" [Sosaku hanga]. He was also influenced by Koshiro Onchi and Sempan Maekawa and since 1933, has played a leading role in the modern print movement. An excellent reference source book. Azechi was "discovered" by Oliver Statler, who also brought him to American and exhibited his work in Chicago in 1961.
