Slaney's Act and the Christian Socialists

The Industrial and Provident Societies' Act, 1852 was the law which enabled the Co-operative Movement to develop on a proper legal footing in England. The book is concerned with the process by which Robert Slaney M.P. and the group known as Christian Socialists worked to make this possible. Their efforts involved making presentations to various Select Committees of the House of Commons and marshalling the support of many legal and economic experts as well as those involved in co-operative enterprises.
