About This Book

This text makes available to the modern audience two 17th century texts that are critical to the understanding of the emergence of Presbyterianism in Ireland. The first text is considered the origin textof the Ulster Presbyterian historical tradition and is the earliest known account of the development of Presbyteriansim in the province, covering the period from the 1620s to c. 1670. It was written by someone who witnessed first-hand many of the accounts he describes. This fresh edition is based on the earliest surviving manuscript copy of Adair's text held by the Presbyterian Historical Society of Ireland. The second text presents the history of Christianity in Ireland from the time of St. Patrick to Andrew Stewart's own day and from his Scottish perspective. -- Publisher description
