"To summarize the saga of my 44 months with Uncle Sam, I married, and had a son, built up enough eligibility to acquire a college education, had seen four continents, had served on two different ships, crossed the Caribbean 41 times, crossed the continental US three times, went through the Panama Canal three times, crossed the Pacific four times, took part in two major invasions, had been in 38 of the then 48 states, plus Hawaii.
