The Model Reporting Area (MRA) for Blindness Statistics was a voluntary association of states that agreed to uniform definitions and procedures so as to improve the uniformity and reliability of data regarding blind persons. The basic source of data in the registrations of blind person with the appropriate state agency in accordance with state law. Model Reporting Area members in 1969-1970: Connecticut, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, and Virginia.
