About This Book

Authored by Rumi Hara, a NYC-based visual artist from Japan, Nori is a comic-style zine centered around three-year-old Noriko and her grandmother. The stories take place in the suburbs of Japan during the 1980s. In this installment of Nori, Noriko learns that bats are considered a symbol of good luck in East Asian cultures. The comic, rendered in black, white, and light pinks, contain supernatural elements; Noriko encounters an elderly woman who offers her something to eat, and is chased by bats throughout the town. The front and back covers of the zine contain illustrations of bats sketched in vivid blues, reds, greens, and yellows. -- Alekhya
