About This Book
George Hawkins, cavalryman and blood brother to Blue Fox, rides with Reno's men at the Little Bighorn, but doesn't do so with the others men’s thirst for blood. Surviving the Little Bighorn, George rides with General George Crook in what is now known as the Horsemeat March in their search to find the fleeing Indians. When George refuses to follow an (factual) order he cannot in good conscience do, George must resign his commission in the cavalry. In his quest to somehow help the Indians, George meets Maggie, a wild, untamed filly, who steals his heart. But Maggie has her own agenda, one that doesn't include George. In his renewed efforts to help the Indians, he becomes a teamster. Delivering annuities to the Indians, he is unable to stop the deaths of Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull while trying to fight the corrupt reservation system. And in the end, he's unable to stop 300 men, women, and children from being massacred at Wounded Knee Creek, but can he save himself and Maggie?
