Her husband Jeff is a writer: they were on a trip in Guadeloupe when Gwen was stung by a bee and collapsed. Technically she is still alive. The young doctor is a master of the meaninglessly upbeat bedside chat, full of wise saws and the latest instances of miraculous recovery.
