History of Order of Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy, or Mercedarian Order, in New Spain and, particularly, in Michoacan. Study is based on chronicles and texts produced by order itself, as well as on documents from archives in Mexico, Spain and Rome. Reconstructs order's strategies for survival and actions of prelates fray Alonso Enriquez de Toledo and fray Francisco de Ribera, who were particularly influential in religious life of diocese.
