About This Book
The public is invited to the magnificent new museum building, but what happens on the inside? How should art be communicated? Should the public only read texts on the wall, or does the museum have a responsibility to renew itself? What happens to the museum in the new sharing and participation society? The communication field is in radical change, and with this book we have challenged Nordic art museums to examine their own practice from the inside. The editors have selected both innovative and established practices, and placed them in a thematic overview that highlights museum spearheads in the Nordic region. From the National Museum's philosophical talks to the Børnehuset in Louisiana, the museum as a mental fitness center at ARoS, Arken's citizenship project, dance at the Munch Museum and family Sunday at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm. This is the first anthology of its kind written from the perspective of the mediators and with practice in focus. Several of these are publishing research texts based on practical knowledge for the first time. The article authors are employed as researchers, mediators and exhibition producers, and work actively with communication both as a practice and as a research method. The book is suitable for museum employees in the Nordic countries, students in museum science and art history disciplines as well as researchers in the field
