The following book reproduces in facsimile the 1957 edition of the book titled "Candomblé" and includes for the first time the original 52 photographs (without cutting) taken by photojournalist José Medeiros (b. Brazil 1921-1990) to document with texts and a photo series the candomblé initiation ritual practiced by the Indians of the Xingu of Bahia. The present edition an important visual anthropological document of Afro-Brazilian cults, specially now that negatives of the photographs are lost.
