About This Book

Juan Kurchan (1913-1972), a modern Argentine architect, is known in a partial way for his participation in the Grupo Austral in the 1940s. From the dissolution of this group, an important study gap is detected in regard to his later particular career where his personality emerges in historiography within the category of the great forgotten of Argentine architecture. This book is the result of the investigation of the family archive of the Argentine architect, where the important finding of his Theoretical-Intellectual Production takes place, as well as of his Artistic Production. The Intellectual Production is constituted of an extremely valuable theoretical material, of unpublished character, composed of texts, letters, talks and writings, of which there are records that were conferred in Argentina and abroad by Kurchan himself. Artistic Production on the other hand, dates from 1939, 1940 and 1941, and only today is known after so many years of protection and anonymity, reflecting a strong aesthetic-expressive imprint linked to the artistic current of surrealism, also being discovered as an important contribution to art in Argentina.
