About This Book

This is an advanced mechanical and structural engineering textbook. The reader should have technical knowledge of the mechanics of materials. It is definitely not for casual reading.

The following is a partial quotation from the preface:
"This book is not intended to cover the entire field of vibrations, but rather to pinpoint the particular phase involving the transverse vibrations of beam-like structures with many degrees of freedom. The classical and better-known numerical methods for solving transverse vibration problems, as well as a review of important structural aspects, constitute the early portions of the book. Subsequent to this general introduction, the author's new method of equivalent systems is developed in depth for the reader, leading to the new dynamic hinge concept, which permits a portion of a structure to be isolated and used for determining the fundamental frequency of vibration."
