Season of Sins

When Johnny Able, reared among pirates of the East African coast, miraculously reappears at Strenshaugh Hall at the end of Queen Victoria's reign, his grandfather is delighted. His Lordship dreams of his heir's marriage to the shy and virtuous Rose appear to be fulfilled. Johnny's upbringing has left him sadly unfitted for his elevated role. After a scandalous affair with Rose's maid and his profligate lifestyle in London Rose rejects him.
