About This Book

How spaces are perceived is strongly influenced by the architectural situation, with entire areas often remaining hidden. Anne Gathmann (*1973) has been occupying herself with these spatial gaps based on her intervention in the Elisabethkirche in Kassel, an exhibition by the Catholic Church on the occasion of Documenta 14. For it, the artist created a band consisting of several thousand aluminum elements that measure the church interior and guide the gaze to the spatial structures of the church. This intervention of minimalist materiality results in an expansion of the visible spatiality. The publication documents Gathmann's extensive installation and provides insight into her artistic method. Exhibition: Elisabethkirche, on the occasion of Documenta 14, Kassel, Germany (25.05. - 23.09.2017).
