Evaluation and appreciation of Telugu literature , that combines the traditional Indian principles of Alankaara saastra with western concepts of literary criticism , was first taught as a course to graduate students by the author ,during the years 1931-1949 at the Andhra University, as its inaugural head of the school of Telugu Studies. The terminology introduced by him gained wide currency in the Telugu literary community. This book which presents the material he taught , was first published in 1966. Subsequent reprints came out in 1991 and 1995.
