About This Book

Author's note: The book took me six years to write. Essex has a wealth of history and has lost churches for a variety of reasons over the past millenia. Walton church fell into the sea in the 1700s, Langenhoe church was demolished after the "Great English Earthquake" of 1884 and St Runwald's church stood in the middle of Colchester High Street until it became at first a convenience (W.C!) and then a nuisance and so was demolished. If you're interested in ruins and our lost heritage - the book is full of rare pictures and stories of failed communities and churches. Buy the book and then go out and visit the sites!
