Diversified farming under the plantation system

"The tenant's prosperity is identical with that of the planter. It is therefore to the advantage of the planter to encourage diversified farming among his tenants. It is hoped that many planters will learn from the description of these experiments in Louisiana not only the benefits of diversification but also how to start the work. Not every one will be so situated as to follow this outline exactly, but the principle is plain and some plan can be evolved which will work equally well under other conditions."--Page 14.
