About This Book
REPRINT - 8vo, later blue cloth, gilt, in the style of the original. (8), 196 pages; text illustrations. Heavily annotated throughout by Dr. James O. Sloss, providing information on pieces that had come to market (with valuations), as well as records of his own holdings and miscellaneous data on specific varieties. Near fine. Based on Woodin’s extensive holdings, the Adams-Woodin compilation was a quantum leap over what little had previously been published on patterns. For half a century it remained the standard reference on these fascinating pieces. This copy was replied upon by Dr. James Sloss to record his extensive collection of pattern coins. He also used it to record various notes on particular pieces and keep track of values and amounts paid. Sloss’s collection of patterns was sold in 1974 through a private transaction, making this volume an important record of a major collection.
