About This Book

This book is the third part of project "Rastros, Traços e Vestígios" (Trails, Traces and Remains), in which artist André Penteado explores - through photographs - events in Brazilian history that took place before the invention of photography. In this edition, the artist, inspired by the Farroupilha Revolution, traveled for over two years through Rio Grande do Sul seeking images that link the past to the present and exposes the complexity that this gaucho historical fact and how it has unfolded over the years. By revisiting themes such as Camp Farroupilha, the 20th of September parade, theatrical and scenographic readings of the Revolution and its characters, the photographs give another layer of meaning to monuments and battlefields such as the legendary Porongos.
