About This Book

Karin Michaëlis was a world famous Danish writer and humanist during the first part of the 20th century who was largely forgotten in Denmark but was, and still is, an ikon in the German speaking countries. This book is the first contemporary textual analysis of a selection of her works. It shows what a subversive an edgy writer she was and how far ahead of her time. Her combination of wildly imaginative narratives, cleverly making use of a romance novel format with trenchant and "modern" psychological insights, make her as readably and relevant today as she was then. Thanks in part to this book she is indeed enjoying a renaissance both in her native Denmark and in other countries. All of her books are available in German but only a few of them have been translated into English, an omission that needs to be redressed.
