Antonio De Villegas' El Abencerraje

The book entitled "The Abencerraje and the beautiful Jarifa" relates a story that occurs on the border of Andalusia between the Moors and Christians in the 15th century. Rodrigo de Narvaez, warden of Antequera, therein shows Christian generosity to a Moorish Knight, Abindarraez, of the family of the Abencerrajes, and frees him so he can go to his wedding with Jarifa... The Abencerraje can be considered as one of the sources for the figure of the noble Moor as projected in European literature.
