About This Book

"Manuel Felguérez has been a key figure in the development of contemporary art in Mexico and we are celebrating his 90th birthday with this exhibition at the muac. There are three moments that have marked watersheds in his artistic career: the junk murals, The Aesthetic Machine and his recent creations. The garbage and junk that he used in his earliest work became the principal materials for the construction of his murals, which display his mastery through a multidisciplinary, collaborative logic. His interest in experimentation is reflected in The Aesthetic Machine, a project from the mid-70s that explored the creative possibilities of using a computer to design works of art. This period reveals the conjunction-always present in his work- of the pictorial and the sculptural, as well as the design of plastic solutions for a specific form. In his most recent productions, Felguérez maintains his love of large-scale formats and the use of varied materials to create abstract compositions."--Page 9.
