Critical essays on predominantly contemporary writers, celebrating act and art of reading. First section contains notes on relationship between books and their readers and proposes an 'ethic of reading.' Second engages in dialogue with works by Juan Gelman, Margo Glantz, Juan Villoro, Myriam Moscona and other writers. Last examines works of Dante Alighieri, Juan Rulfo and Fernando del Paso, noting themes such as image of devil, food, music and solitude. Some essays have been published previously in other forums.
