About This Book

Clune outlines the principles for a strategy for social reorganisation to overcome social and economic problems he perceived in Europe in his time. His solution was consistent with Catholic Social Thought, especially in the light of Pope Pius XI's encyclical Quadragesimo Anno. The book demonstrates the economic and social efficacy of pre-modern Europe and the deficiencies of both socialism and liberalism (capitalism). Clune reveals an influence by Henry George in his treatment of land. Readers of Clune may also find Edward Cahill's 1932, Framework of a Christian State valuable. Both are essential for adequately understanding Christian social thought as it existed before 1960.
