About This Book

This book was published on the occasion of the exhibition presented at the Musee Lorrain Nancy, from May 4 to August 4, 2013, in connection with the protests "Renaissance Nancy 2013". In the sixteenth century, nothing seemed to predispose Lorraine to become the cradle of a brilliant and original Renaissance. Situated between France and the Empire, regularly threatened by war, it was also affected by the religious crisis of the Reformation. Yet, throughout the century, the Lorraine territories provided the theater of artistic effervescence, literary, musical and scientific innovations were remarkable. Through the revival of art, science and literature, presented here in all its forms, the Lorraine territories revealed to be one of the highlights of the European Renaissance.
