Russia and Eastern Europe

This book discusses the events s and issues which have shaped Russia and Eastern Europe this century. It considers how and why the Communists came to power in Russia, describes the careers, policies, and achievements of the leaders since 1917, notably of Lenin, Stalin, and Khrushchev, and assesses the effects of their rule upon the Russian people and internal relations. This book traces the establishment of the independent nation-states of Eastern Europe before they came under the control of Hitler's Germany and later Stalin's Russia and how their apparent political and ideological uniformity conceals interesting individual developments.
