Textile Production at 16-22 Coppergate (The Archaeology of York

This book is 17/11 in the series "The Archaeology of York: the Small Finds". It covers how wool and vegetable fibres were processed, from raw materials through fibre preparation, spinning, weaving, dyes and dyeing, finishing the cloth, laundering, cutting and stitching (including seams), other textile crafts. It shows examples of how textile tools were used. There are excellent illustrations of the tools found, including wool combs, spindle whorls, cards for weaving, scissors, shears, pins, beaters, needles, glass smoothers, and loom weights. Note that the section on dyeing is additional to the information in "Textiles, Cordage, and Raw Fibre" (16-22 in the series).
