About This Book
"Almost one-third of the catalogue is devoted to various strawberry varieties, including oval-shaped and rectangular-shaped ones. Among other subjects discussed are asparagus, fruit trees, vegetables, potatoes, different types of vines, roses, violets, pansies, greenhouse plants, orchids, various shrubs, and more. Godefroy-Lebeuf is generous with his explanatory captions, which are rich in information regarding how and when to plant and in which kind of soil. He often gives the origin of his fruits and vegetables and notes several coming from North America (Amsden peaches, Kieffer pears, etc. ...). He highlights the best types of fruits for preserves, pies and fruit syrups including tips for their preparation. Surpirsingly, a good number of them are American fruits. The catalogue concludes with the "Library of a getleman-farmer," a five-page list of books which are offered for sale at his nursery in Argenteuil and the wrappers of his catalog advertise garden tools for sale."--bookseller Martayan Lan datasheet.
