A fascinating piece of work written by the great Roman senator and historian, Tacitus *The Annals* provides significant information to help us understand the history of the Roman Empire through the first century. This information ranges from the start of the reign of Tiberius to the end of Nero's rule. While two thirds of *The Annals* is missing it produces fundamental insight into the Roman Empire.
