The Homeric scholia and the Aeneid

The author examines the "Aeneid" in the light of the ancient commentaries, or scholia, on parallel passages in the "Iliad" and "Odyssey". The examination reveals Vergil's indebtedness to his literary heritage and affords new insights into the purpose and technique of his adaptation and variation of Homeric themes.
