Answering Kennedy's call

Less than six weeks after his inauguration on January 20, 1961, John F. Kennedy signed an Executive Order establishing the Peace Corps. The authors of the essays in this book volunteered in the first year and were selected for the Philippines program, the first in Asia. The determination and spirit of the early volunteers around the world made the Peace Corps succeed despite great odds.
