About This Book

Overall a recommendation to hold off conducting a feasibility study for the proposed Rivergate Freeway. The Rivergate Freeway as proposed and referenced in this volume would have run from the Sunset Highway as an extension of the then- Beaverton-Tigard Freeway north to the west of Vancouver, Washington and eventually meeting back up with Interstate 5. Both the Ports of Portland and Vancouver had reasons to support and not support the Freeway. A multitude of environmental issues; since the Freeway would have run through the sensitive Vancouver Lake Lowlands, mostly prevented this freeway from ever being constructed. This report recommends holding off further study especially since I-205 was then-under construction and future traffic volumes were expected to ease the need for the Rivergate Freeway.
