About This Book

Written for book collectors, Merle Johnson's High Spots of American Literature offers the author's view of which books he believes have literary merit. Johnson describes the first editions of these books, and a brief squib about the author. In today's market it can also serve as a checklist of books considered good reading at the turn of the 20th century. Some of the authors, Twain and Sinclair Lewis, survive. Others, James Lane Allen, Henry Cuyler Bunner, not so much.
