About This Book
Social Development in Africa is a collection of papers by four African scholars affiliated to ACARTSOD, which evaluate the social development strategies, policies and programmes underway throughout Central, West, North and Eastern Africa since the Lagos Plan of 1981. The authors assess not only the form and content of education and training, health, social security and welfare, housing, and employment, but also their implementation and degree of progress towards substantial improvement by the year 2000. The role of women in social development, a sector given special prominence in the Lagos Plan, is also addressed.
