About This Book

How can we create attractive and healthy cities that result in positive effects on both human health and the economy? An important source of ideas comes from “Mljonprogrammet” (a Swedish planning project to end a housing shortage.) Homes were built for a million people during 1965-1974, and drew inspiration from functionalism on large scale. Functionalism promised healthy, functioning cities, but as the book shows, it has not met those promises that promote a rich social life.
