Global Food Losses and Food Waste

Roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year--approximately 1.3 billion tons--gets lost or wasted, according to an FAO-commissioned study. The study highlights the losses occurring along the enitre food chain, and makes assessments of their magnitude. Further, it identifies causes of food losses and possible ways of preventing them.
