About This Book
This text is part of the Shotokan Karate Union coaching award scheme,"Module 3 : The Coaching of various age groups." and is to be used in conjunction with other course material. This module of study is specifically designed to prepare the coaches of older mature adult Karate-ka, so that they can educate their students, to why it is that “older mature adult Karate-ka should rethink their training regimes, by revisiting the basics again, that is, if they desire to extend the length of time that they will be able to perform wide ranging and meaningful practice”. The module covers the adaptation of previously learnt training techniques, the anatomical and physiological aspects, the limitations and their implications as a result of degeneration or disease. While this text (Chapter 14) specifically looks at the psychological difficulties of getting students to accept the benifits of changing their training regime.
