About This Book
The importance of the lower pre-classic Olmec regional interaction is expressed in a specialized infrastructure of an old coastal port on the island of San Lorenzo and the artisanal production of Obsidian in that place. As the capital of San Lorenzo gained importance, the port of Malpica became an entry to the island where the exchange and trade developed. The identification of lithic workshop in the port of Malpica is a very important discovery because, so far, it is the oldest that has been identified in Mesoamerica. "In the present work, we present the archaeological remains we found in the front Malpica U as a turning point for the analysis of the relationship between transportation and artisan specialization and their role in the cultural development of the Olmec capital of San Lorenzo Tenochtitlan during the lower Preclassic period" (HKB Translation)--Page 16.
