Belgium and EC membership evaluated

Home to the European Commission, one of the original signatories to the Treaty of Rome, and a net contributor, Belgium plays a key institutional role in the European Community. However, there has been no previous attempt to analyse the costs and benefits of membership for the country.

Within this context, Belgian academics in the fields of economics, law, political and social sciences provide a timely and scholarly assessment of the changes to their country since Belgium's accession to the European Community. The contributors focus particularly on the Community policies compared to Belgium's national goals examining 'gains' and 'losses' in all sectors of Belgian society.
