The diary of Lewis Loder represents the most significant single contribution to Boone County, Kentucky history. Mr. Loder kept a day by day account of life in Petersburg, Kentucky. Loder owned one of two taverns in the town and was the justice of the peace/coroner for forty years. During that time, he documented every birth, marriage and death in Petersburg, as well as, note-worthy events.In the nineteenth century, Petersburg was a bustling river town located at the tip of Boone County, Kentucky across from Lawrenceburg and Aurora, Indiana. At one time, Petersburg's distillery produced the most whiskey in the region.
