Dr. Burney as critic and historian of music

This study is a synthesis, of Burney's historical and critical writings about music. It draws together material spread throughout Burney's well known, extensive publications and incorporates material from unpublished, largely unknown manuscript sources. Included are chapters on Burney's Style of Criticism, Critic in Conflict, and Burney's Achievement as Critic and Historian of Music. The other chapters analyze Burney's repines to various genres of music.
