About This Book

"The provocation is fully-intended. Old and new, shrill sounds and timbered facades clash with full force. No doubt: with his XXL Art-Happening, Thomas Rebel lets his inner punk show. Mockers, doubters, sceptics - the artist is fully aware of them, he virtually invites them in. This is not about decoration. This is about dialogue, dispute and renewal. Exactly this is the crucial point that I initially liked about this literally biggest exhibition that the area has ever seen. Nice lighting concepts, pretty landscapes - this altogether would not be enough, too interchangeable for a 1250-year anniversary of the town of Bretten where Philipp Melanchthon was born. Rebel uses his town as a gallery for his gigantic, distorted motifs that he takes to the extreme by digital means. The motifs are the town itself, but also motifs from the time of the Reformation - like, e.g., a huge Martin Luther smiling, in a very colourful and shrill way, from afar at the visitors coming to Bretten"--Publisher's website.
