Pierre Drieu La Rochelle

This study of Pierre Drieu la Rochelle traces the development of the writer's narrative voice, focusing on the first-person singular narration of Le Jeune Européen, and on the 1920s in general as the formative period for Drieu la Rochelle's writing. Le Jeune Européen has been little studied, in part because its genre has been difficult for readers to understand; this study concludes that the narrative style of the work is inseparable from its ambiguity of genre.
